Qualification Level: Undergraduate Degree

Course Duration: The course duration is 5 years for UTME Students and 4 years for Direct Entry Students starting from level 200 (year two).

Admission Requirements for Civil Engineering

Candidates who made the basic admission requirements are offered admission into 4 or 5 years programme deepening on Mode of entry (UTME or DE). Although, admission requirements slightly differ in many schools, here are the basic admissions as well as waiver considerations.

UTME  O’level Requirements for Civil Engineering

Candidates who wish to gain admission to study civil engineering programme at any University in Nigeria must have at least Five (5) SSCE (WAEC/NECO) credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and any other science subject. Some schools accepts a combination of O’Level Results to admission consideration.

JAMB-UTME Subject Combination for Civil Engineering

The JAMB UTME Subject combination for Civil Engineering is Use of English, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.

Special Admission Considerations for JAMB UTME Candidates

(i) ANSU accepts a pass in English Language.

(ii) FUTO, MAKURDI and FUNAAB same as in Agricultural Engineering.

(iii) UNN-As in Agricultural Engineering and Bioresources.

(iv) NDU requires five ‘O’ level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and any
other subject.

(v) IBADAN – As for Agricultural & Environmental
Engineering.

(vi)   ESUTECH requires credit pass in English Language and all
relevant subjects.

(vii) LAGOS requires a credit pass in Further Mathematics.

(viii)   FUTA requires five SSCE credit passes or its equivalent at NOT more than two (2) sittings in five (5)  subjects: Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics English Language and
any other science subject.

(ix) RSUST accepts further Mathematics in lieu of Mathematics and requires Agricultural Science or Biology as the fifth subject.

UTME Subjects:
(i) FUTO and UNN – As in Agric Engineering

Direct Entry Requirements for Civil Engineering

Candidates who wish to gain admission into civil engineering programme at any University in Nigeria at direct entry level must have;

(i) ‘A’ level passes in Physics and Mathematics.

(ii) OND/HND (Upper credit)  at appropriate levels

Special Admission Considerations for Direct Entry Candidates

(i) ILORIN requires one year post ND/HND experience. (ii) ESUTECH accepts NCE/ND/First Degree with good grades into 200 or 300 level.

(iii) ABUAD, RSUST, AAU, FUTO and UYO accept OND (upper credit), HND (lower credit) in relevant areas plus UTME requirements.

(iv) MAUTY accepts OND/HND credit and IJMB in relevant fields with at least three ‘O’ level credits in relevant subjects.

(v) OSUSTECH and LAGOS – Same as in Chemical Engineering.

(vi) NDU and PHC – No Direct Entry

(vii) FUTO – Same as in Agricultural Engineering

(viii) OAU, BENIN & LAGOS as for Chemical Engineering

(ix) ILORIN, BAYERO, UNN, LAUTECH and MAUTY accept ‘A’ level pass in Chemistry

(x) OAU accepts OND/HND Civil Engineering Upper Credit.

(xi)   MINNA accepts OND/HND lower credit from recognized institution. It accepts a credit pass in English Lang. and Chemistry.

(xi) ANSU accepts OND/HND (lower credit) in Civil Engineering.

(xiii) UMUDIKE and IBADAN – As for Agric & Environmental Engineering.

(xiv)   IGBINEDION – a)     Second ‘A’ level should be taken from Mathematics and
Chemistry.

  1. b) ND in any Engineering related field.

(xv) EKSU accepts ND (Upper Credit) in Civil Engineering

(xvi) BENIN – As in Chemical Engineering.

(xvii) IGBINEDION accepts a credit pass in Chemistry, ND/HND (upper credit) into 200 & 300 levels respectively.

(xviii) MAUTY accepts:
a) GCE `A’ Level and IJMB passes in  Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics

  1. b)   Upper/Lower  credit in OND in relevant field

(xix) LAUTECH same as in Chemical Engineering

(xx) FUT in addition  to the UTME  requirements accepts OND Upper Credit level or other equivalent professional qualification in Civil Engineering  or related discipline from  recognized institutions .or  Good passes at the General Certificate of Education (Advance Level)) or its
equivalent in Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics.

(xxi) UNIOSUN accepts Two ‘A’ Level passes Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry; Minimum of  Lower Credit Pass in Civil or Mechanical Engineering in ND; Candidates with acceptable pass in UNIOSUN Foundation Programme are also eligible.
(xxii) ABU accepts:
(a)  ‘A’ level/IJMB passes in Physics and Mathematics.

(b)  OND/HND (Upper credit)  at appropriate levels

(c) HND (Lower Credit) in Civil Engineering from Accredited Institutions.

(xxiii) MAKURDU  – Same as in Agricultural Engineering

(xxiv) ABUAD requires three A’ level passes in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.

(xxiv) FED-OYEEKITI and OSUSTECH accept A’ level pass in Chemistry.

(xxv) FUNAAB requires GCE `A’ Level credit passes in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry or equivalent. It accepts ND (Upper Credit) in Civil Engineering or relevant disciplines.

(xxvi) NDA requires the other Science subject from Technical Drawing, Further Mathematics, Biology and Geography.
