Maymester Study Abroad Programs: Maymesters abroad are regular Vanderbilt courses (usually 3 credit hours) that are taught by Vanderbilt faculty in another country.

They are typically three to four weeks in length, and offered in the month of May. Maymesters are a great alternative for those looking to travel and study abroad without having to sacrifice time out of the school year.

Staying on track to graduate and having the opportunity to immerse yourself in a different culture is possible with short- term study abroad programs.

1. Minds Abroad: Chinese Class & Activities

This program is unique in that morning Classes and Afternoon Activities Program are open for students who want to stay and study Chinese for an extended period of time.

These classes are for beginners, intermediate and advanced learners. After class, they also offer free volunteering, interning, or language exchange in the afternoon.

For beginners, their aim is to help give them the basic Chinese language skills that they need to more fully enjoy and experience their time in China.

Knowing basic Chinese will not only enable them to do simple tasks but will also give them the confidence and skills they need to interact with Chinese people on a daily basis.

Intermediate or advanced students will learn more about Chinese usage and pick up nuances of language used with other students in this program or with language exchange partners.

To ensure the best possible student-teacher interaction, classes are limited to usually 2-4 students with a maximum of 7 students.

2. AIFS Study Abroad in Florence: Maymester

AIFS offers a unique Maymester Program which gives students the opportunity to take courses in studio art, history, food and culture, and marketing.

Classes focus on Italian life and culture and formal classroom teaching is supplemented with on-site learning in and around Florence.

Students taking the optional Rome and Venice excursions can take a one-credit Introduction to Italian Art Course.

3. AIFS Study Abroad in Cannes: Maymester

The Maymester program coincides with the Cannes Film Festival, giving students the chance to live and study in Cannes during this exciting and world-renowned festival.

Begin or improve your French with intensive French language study at the Collège International de Cannes, founded on the principles of with the express purpose of introducing foreign students to the French language and culture.

Live on campus in the Collège Residence Hall overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. You’ll enjoy cultural and social activities such as museum visits, boat trips, and day trips to Monaco, Nice, San Tropez, San Remo, and more.

4. Spend Next Semester Studying in Sicily, Italy!

Taormina is an ideal location to study abroad for a semester or yearlong program for the student who is interested in total immersion into the Italian culture and language.

A quaint medieval city, Taormina’s charm captivates students as they find themselves welcomed into the everyday life of this vibrant community.

Host families extend learning during relaxed dinner conversations during the traditional Sicilian meals provided.

Here, Students spend time mastering their artistry in one of the most diverse artistic cities in the world in so many facets.

They explore all of the history and architecture that Florence has in store to get a lifetime worth of inspiration.

ISA offers excursions that are included in the program cost. Destinations include Rome, Cinque Terre, Siena, and central Italy.

6. Universidad VERITAS: Costa Rica Abroad Programs

Here, they have semester-long programs, short term programs, as well as summer programs. Every program can be customized to your educational needs.

The courses that you are able to take are Intensive Spanish, Electives that range from Art to Health to Business, Integrated Studies with local students, and Internships.

Programs here are fun to learn, action-packed, and useful for learning a new language.

7. Arabic Language Study in Cairo, Egypt

9. Italian Intensive Small-Group Courses in Turin

Standard courses here are arranged for all levels (A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2) and are established according to the needs of students.

They start on each Monday of the month, with the exception of those for absolute beginners, which will commence on the first Monday of the month.

On request, and for an additional fee, the school can organize culinary workshops as well as guided tours of some of the city’s most important monuments.

Students from any European higher education institution, upon presentation of their matriculation documents, will qualify for discounts.
