Tuition fees for study programs in Croatia are determined by each higher education institution. The level of tuition fees depends on the type of study program and its duration.

Undergraduate Tuition Fee

The range of tuition fees for international undergraduate students varies depending on the higher education institution and field of study.

Tuition fees for undergraduate degree programs in the humanities and social sciences can range from 6,000 Kuna (approximately 800 EUR) to 16,500 Kuna (approximately 2,200 EUR) per year, tuition fees for technical sciences are approximately 22,000 Kuna (approximately 3,000 EUR) per year and tuition fees for sciences and medical study are around 27,000 Kuna per year (approximately 3,600 EUR).

Postgraduate Tuition Fee in Croatia

Students from the EU to study in Croatia are eligible to pay the same tuition fees as the domestic students and the vast majority of postgraduate courses in English are at the public universities.

This means that many students from other countries in the EU will find that tuition fees are very favourable compared with those charged at home. Tuition fees for Croatian and EU postgraduate students vary between around €800 to around €2,200 and up to €3,000+ for international students.

Cost of Living in Croatia

Students can go for private accommodation to rent a room or apartment/flat. The cost of private accommodation varies depending on the location, no. of rooms and amenities.

Students can expect to pay around 150 EUR per month for a one-bed, bathroom, and kitchen; and about 250 EUR per month for a studio apartment. Students are required to pay the rent at the start of each month.

Students can expect to spend between 400 and 700 EUR per month, including accommodation, travel, food, utilities, and other necessary expenses.

The costs of living vary depending on the accommodation type student dormitory or private accommodation, lifestyle and location, either inside or outside the city.

Cost of Transportation in Croatia

In Croatia, there are many modes of transport available to students. Students can select any model depending on their needs and budget. Students can easily travel around the country through public transport.

Public transport in Croatia is well developed and comprises of railways, buses, and trams. Also, the intercity bus network is available in Croatia.

Getting around Croatia by buses highly economical; the average inter-city bus fare is 30 to 35Kn per hour.

Local ferries are cheap for passengers (30-40Kn is the average fare) but taking a car can get pricey. For example, a passenger going from Split to Stari Grad (Hvar) pays only €3.60 but the car is another €16.80.

Cost of Medical Insurance in Croatia

You must have valid health insurance whilst studying in Croatia. It is a prerequisite for being granted a temporary residence permit.

As a British citizen, you are entitled to a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) for the duration of your course in Croatia, as long as you intend to return to the UK at the end of the course and you are not undertaking work such as part-time jobs or paid internships simultaneously with your studies.

Even with the EHIC, you will have to pay a mandatory co-payment of HRK 10 each time you visit a doctor, dentist, or receiving a prescription.

Cost of Visa in Croatia

Croatia must obtain a temporary residence permit (which has a duration of one year) before they are allowed to attend classes. Also, students coming from abroad must obtain an entry visa to Croatia.

Visa applications can be submitted at the consulate or embassy in your country. Submission can be done through email or in person. Residence permit application, on the other hand, can be submitted to the nearest police station in Croatia.
