Lerner was born in Riverside, California as the son of Patti (née Klein), who is a reporter, and Ken Lerner, an actor. His uncle is actor Michael Lerner, and their family is of Jewish descendant.  Samuel Bryce Lerner is in a relationship with Smosh member Olivia Sui.

Career

Sam has had the advantage of a live-in acting coach in the form of his father, Ken Lerner,  owns an acting school and is a top teacher for the New York Film Academy, and has a stable acting career of his own. The two played each other at diverse ages in a Wells Fargo television commercial.

Lerner took part in the feature film Envy, as the son of Ben Stiller and Rachel Weisz’s characters, and played the role of the son of Wendy Malick and Sam Robards’s typescript in the ABC-TV pilot My Life With Men, and the son of John Leguizamo and Claire Forlani’s characters in an untitled Brett Ratner-directed pilot for CBS-TV.

Lerner expressed one of the leads, Chowder, in the computer-animated film Monster House (2006). He was selected for the 2006 Annie Award for Best Voice Acting in an Animated Feature for his role and was replaced for the award by Sir Ian McKellen.

He has featured on the television shows Malcolm in the Middle, The King of Queens, Two and a Half Men, Oliver Beene, and Sonny With a Chance, and had a persisting voice role on the Cartoon Network show Whatever Happened to Robot Jones?. He performed voice work for Zak Saturday, a character from the Cartoon Network show The Secret Saturdays.

On October 16, 2017, Lerner was featured as Ronnie in the Blumhouse supernatural thriller film Truth or Dare. The film was up in theaters on the 13th of April, 2018.
