How Long Does it Take To Get a Canadian Visa

They vary depending on:

1. The applications submitted

2. If the application is complete

3. How quickly we process applications we already received

4. How easily we can verify your information

5. How long do you take to respond to any request or concerns

6. Other factors

Instead, I have estimated processing times. These tell you how long I expect it’ll take to process the most complete applications. Some are updated regularly and may change while your application is being processed.

However, processing times include most of the steps from when your complete application is received to when we decide.

If your documents (such as medical exams, police certificates, or language test results) are needed after you’ve submitted your application, send them soon as you can. If you don’t, there may be delays in processing your application.

To be Eligible,

➢ You must meet some basic requirements to get a visitor visa. You must:

➢ Have a valid travel document, like a passport

➢ Be in good health

➢ Have no criminal or immigration-related convictions

➢ Convince an immigration officer that you have ties such as a job, home, financial assets or family that will take you back to your home country

➢ Convince an immigration officer that you will leave Canada at the end of your visit

➢ Have enough money for your stay.

Note: The amount of money you will need depends on how long you will stay and if you will stay in a hotel, or with friends or relatives.

However, you may also need a medical exam and a letter of invitation from someone who lives in Canada.

How to Apply

To Get a Canadian Visa

You can apply for a visitor visa online or on paper.

Why You Should Apply Online

➢ No courier fees or mail delivery time your application is gotten instantly.

➢ Online applications may be processed more quickly.

➢ Avoid processing delays. Incomplete applications are returned to you. Applying online helps ensure your application is complete before you submit it.

➢ If more documents are being asked for, you can quickly submit them online.

➢ You don’t need to submit your passport until it is being asked for.

➢ Get updates on the status of your application directly in your online account.

After You Apply

You need to give your fingerprints and photo (biometrics)

In most cases, you need to give biometrics. After you pay the biometrics fee and submit your application, you will be sent a letter that says you need to give your biometrics.

However, the letter will tell you how and where to give your biometrics. You have up to 30 days to give your biometrics (in person).

If you didn’t pay the bio-metrics fee, a letter will be sent to you asking you to do this first. You can only get the instruction letter if you pay the biometrics fee.

If it’s incomplete, your application will be returned without processing it.

They may also ask you to:

➢ Go to an interview with Canadian officials in your country

➢ To send more information

➢ Get a medical exam

➢ Get a police certificate

You would be told what to do if you need to do any of these.

They will process most applications in a few weeks or less. However, processing times depend on the visa office and if you need to do any extra steps (listed above).

Undoubtedly, your passport and other original documents will be returned to you after your application has been processed.

Original bank statements or any documents that are found to be fake won’t be returned.

If your application is approved, they will stamp the visa inside your passport.

If your application is refused, an explanation will be sent to you.

When You Arrive in Canada

A valid visitor visa and travel document don’t guarantee that you can enter Canada.

Undoubtedly, when you arrive, your identity will be checked to make sure that you’re the same person who was approved to travel to Canada.

If you Enter Canada at One of 10 Major Canadian Airports

➢ Your fingerprints will be checked automatically at a primary inspection kiosk.

➢ The system will check your identity against the information collected when your application was submitted.

If you enter Canada at Smaller airports and all Land Ports of Entry

➢ Your fingerprints may be checked if you are referred to a secondary inspection, where a border services officer will use a fingerprint verification device to check your fingerprints.

➢ Children under 18 must travel with the right documents and meet the same entry requirements as adults.

However, the border services officer may ask minor children to show other documents depending on whether the child is travelling alone or with someone.

You Enter Canada

If you pass the identity check and meet the entry requirements, the border services officer may stamp your passport or let you know how long you can stay in Canada. However, you’re normally allowed to stay in Canada for up to 6 months.

However, sometimes, the officer may limit or extend your time in Canada to cover the planned purpose of your visit. Ask questions if you’re not sure about something.

You won’t be allowed into Canada if you give false or incomplete information.

You must convince the officer that:

➢ You’re eligible for entry into Canada

➢ You’ll leave Canada at the end of your approved stay

Follow these steps to get a well-secured visa.
