You know if am asked what kills fast, I’ll say it’s addiction! I’ve seen it destroy people, family, and relationships, so the question now is, what really is addiction?

Worst Addictions that Kill

According to Wikipedia, “Addiction is a brain characterized by compulsive engagement in rewarding stimuli despite adverse consequences”.

In a more simple explanation, when you can’t do without something even though it is causing you harm, it becomes an addiction. One thing that comes to people’s mind when addiction is mentioned is alcohol, drugs, and sex, there’s more to addiction.

It is pertinent to know that the harm caused mustn’t be healthy if it harms your job, relationship, or association it is an addiction, so the video is an addiction, and so also is love.

List Worst Addictions that Kill Humans

Here are the worst of addictions that kill human beings the most. To be on the safe side, you need to run away from the list below:

1. Alcohol

The number one thing people get addicted to is alcohol. According to research, about 90 in the world take alcohol, and about 60 percent of the 90 are addicted, this means 60 percent of people in the world are been destroyed, and this is damn serious.

Why is alcohol so addictive? Alcohol affects the brain.  According to scientific research, it is the ethanol within alcohol that causes chemical reactions in the brain.

When alcohol is recurrently abused, it will change the way the brain functions. It will start to need the substance to feel normal.

It is the chemicals in the brain that send messages that are affected. They are neurotransmitters, which tell the body what to do. Inhibitory neurotransmitters will help calm the brain down. It makes a person feel balanced and at ease.

2. Cocaine

When it comes to destroying people, cocaine is on the frontline, it’s the first and the deadliest. The reason it’s not listed in the first is that, unlike cocaine, Alcohol affects a greater number of people than cocaine, the reason is that cocaine is quite expensive compared to Alcohol and it hasn’t been legalized but really cocaine is the deadliest thing people get addicted to and its effect is pretty fast.

Usually, our brain cell cycle will use again hormones such as serotonin and dopamine. These neurotransmitters define how we experience desire, motivation, pleasure, and reward. Brain cells send out signals usually and they’re taken up by receptors on that cell.

Cocaine shuts down this normal process of the brain. It creates pleasure, feelings of desire, and behavior reinforcement. Dopamine begins to build up. Cocaine also alters serotonin levels which is what balances our moods.

3. Cigarettes

Nothing causes Cancer of the lungs like cigarettes, cancer of the lungs is like its partner, and no wonder people who manufacture it clearly warn that “smokers are liable to die young” It isn’t just writing, it’s a fact.

What causes addiction to cigarettes is the nicotine in cigarettes; it is as addictive as heroin. It alters the brain as it changes extra nicotine receptors to make space for the doses of nicotine.

When the brain no longer gets the nicotine, breaking out symptoms will occur. This can include anxiety, irritability, and strong cravings for nicotine.

The physical nicotine addiction is owing to how quickly it goes to the brain when gasped. It causes an apparent temporary relaxation. Nicotine raises a person’s mood and heart rate momentarily.

The relaxation and raised mood don’t last long which is when the body begins to crave another cigarette. Withdrawal symptoms set in quickly with nicotine. Imagine that many people will use 20 doses of this drug daily to get their addiction fix.

4. Sex

Sounds funny but sex is among the deadly addiction. Some people can’t stay a minute without having, they feel weird. I was watching a short clip the other day about a woman who has orgasm 30 times in just a day; they just want to have sex every day.

You might be asking, how is it deadly?  You notice that most people who are addicted to sex, especially men, end up masturbating until nothing else is left in their body(I mean semen)  which is not very good.

I hope you know semen contains essential nutrients necessary for the body, by masturbating every day, the loose this nutrient, which could lead to a serious medical problem.

For the female, they would want to sleep with anybody they come in contact with, sometimes because they want it so bad, they won’t even consider using protection and they end up contracting viruses and other infections.

5. Methadone

You know it’s funny because many addiction treatment programs use methadone to assist people come off the withdrawal effects of hard drugs.

The problem is, it may look like it is helping in rating patients but it only causes a different form of addiction. It is meant to be a tapering program where someone addicted to a harder opioid can slowly withdraw to avoid intense symptoms of abstinence.

Withdrawing from methadone can be pretty hard; I think it would take 6 weeks or so. Like with many hard drugs, it is not advisable to attempt withdrawing from methadone on your own. With over 5 million people reporting that they have abused methadone in the past, this is not an uncommon issue.

6. Amphetamine

Amphetamines are a category and class of stimulants that include dextroamphetamine, amphetamines, and methamphetamines. Normally when taken, they increase energy, mood, and confidence.

They also help to quash one’s appetite. They are used frugally as a weight-loss tool but the likes of Adderall are being prescribed to those with ADHD liberally. This drug can be very addictive and it has been one of the drugs that are very hard to break off.

7. Marijuana

Cannabis, also known as marijuana among other names is among the things people get addicted to. According to Wikipedia ‘Marijuana is a psychoactive drug from the Cannabis plant used for medical or recreational purposes”.

The main psychoactive part of cannabis is tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), one of 483 known compounds in the plant, including at least 65 other cannabinoids.  Cannabis can be used by smoking, vaporizing, within the food, or as an extract.

Cannabis has mental and physical effects, such as creating a “high” or “stoned” feeling, a general change in perception, heightened mood, and an increase in appetite. The onset of effects is within minutes when smoked, and about 30 to 60 minutes when cooked and eaten.

They last for between two and six hours. Short-term side effects may include a decrease in short-term memory, dry mouth, impaired motor skills, red eyes, and feelings of paranoia or anxiety.

8. Crystal Meth

Unlike other drugs listed in this article, Crystal Meth is a man-made central nervous system stimulation drug. this drug has an extremely high addiction rate in the world, especially in the United States.

It has been reported by the National Institute on Drugs Abuse and the DEA that crystal meth is very addictive

Usually, when someone is so into crystal meth, it becomes very hard to stop on his or her own. the proper way is to meet an expert.

Addiction is bad, especially when it has to do with harmful and heath-sapping activities like the ones discussed above.

Whenever you feel a sense of high attachment to things and activities not worthy of your precious time, quickly run away from it before it gets you entrapped.
