Difference Between Picante Sauce and Salsa: Picante sauce and salsa are special varieties of Mexican sauces made of tomato, along with onion, jalapeño peppers, and lime.

They are very similar in terms of ingredients and taste, but differ considerably in texture, with salsa containing chunks of vegetables and Picante sauce thinner and smoother.

The Picante sauce and salsa are spices that can actually add more taste to our food. Salsa is a delicious blend of chopped peppers, tomatoes, tomatillos, and some spices.

Salsa has a mild texture, and it is added as a condiment to some food items. When the sauce is applied to food; it makes it spicier or hotter.

Picante Salsa

Salsa is a combination of chopped tomatoes, peppers, tomatillos, and spices. Salsa is mild and is added to a number of food items as a condiment. When coming to Picante sauce, “Picante” itself means “spicy or hot.” This spicy sauce is made from chili peppers. Usually, this spicy sauce makes food hotter or spicier.

Salsa has its origin with the Incas, Mayans, and Aztecs. These people for the first time used a combination of tomatoes, herbs, and peppers on meat dishes which were the first salsas.

Ingredients

1 cup chopped fresh tomato (one medium-to-large tomato)

¼ cup diced onion (or to taste; white onion or scallions are particularly nice in this recipe)

2 – 3 tablespoons cilantro, washed, stemmed, and minced (or to taste; some people like less than this)

1 jalapeño pepper, washed, seeded, and minced (or 1 – 2 Serrano peppers, which are hotter) salt and pepper to taste.

Picante sauce

2 – 3 cloves of garlic, peeled

1 jalapeño pepper (or 2 Serrano peppers) salt and pepper to taste.
