Difference Between Twin and Double room: Twin and double room are terminologies travelers usually encounter at hostels. For first-timers, it is pretty confusing as twins and doubles in different scenarios are interpreted as ‘two’.

In hotel terminology, this terms mean two rooms with different facilities and the difference will be highlighted in this article.

Most of the travelers think the two to be the same as twin means two and double also means two. However, double refers to a room where there would be only one large bed and in a twin room, there would be two small beds.

Twin and Double room

Twin and double rooms are similar in that both types of rooms are designed for two people, but in a twin room they sleep separately, and in a double room – together. In both cases, hotel rooms are designed for two people. The twin room has two single beds. The double room has one double bed, so-called, a marital bed.

In the twin room, the beds are separate whereas in the double there is no separation of the bed. Couples usually prefer double rooms. On the other hand, two girls or two guys traveling would go for ‘twin room’ rather than ‘double room’.

When a family is traveling, the mother and father would take the double room and the children may be accommodated in twin rooms. In the twin room, there is no sharing of the bed whereas, in the double room, the bed is shared.

Unlike the double room, the twin room has twin beds that may be also called single beds. But in a double room, there is only one single bed. The double room can also be said to be having matrimonial beds whereas the twin room consists of single small beds.

People often mistake between twin and double rooms when checking in hotels. Some hotels may use the term double room to mean two people in a room. Traveling couples should always check this or they might be having mixups.
