 Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University: Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University is now accepting applications for international student entry scholarships.

International students or Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan can apply for these undergraduate scholarships. This article details in full the information needed. Read down carefully for more.

Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University

The aim of the scholarship is to enable and encourage academically able students of any nationality.

Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) is a pioneering international university based in the World Heritage city of Suzhou on China’s east coast. XJTLU takes a unique approach to international education that combines, encourages, and develops the teachings of its two founding institutions, Xi’an Jiaotong University, China, and the University of Liverpool, UK.

Students who are non-native English speakers must have satisfactory English language qualifications to study at the University.

 Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University Entry Scholarships

Course Level: XJTLU has a range of scholarships and awards on offer to international students at the undergraduate level for 2017 entry.

Study Subject: Scholarships are offered in diverse fields to help students in upgrading their education.

Scholarship Award: An entry scholarship of up to RMB 44,000 (or up to 50 percent of the tuition fee) per year for international and Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan undergraduate students, based on academic merit.

Entry Requirements

Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan Students

Year One Entry

1. Joint Entrance Examination
A minimum grade of 400 on the Joint Entrance Examination to Chinese Universities for Overseas Chinese Students and Students from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan.

2. Taiwan GSAT
General Scholastic Ability Test (GSAT) ranking of at least top 50 percent for 4 subjects, including English and Maths.

3. HKDSE
HKDSE with 333 in relevant subjects, including 3 in English Language and Mathematics.
4. High School Diploma
High school performance with a minimum B or 70-80% average in all subjects as well as relevant subjects.

Year Two Entry

1. HKDSE
HKDSE with 444 in relevant subjects, including 4 in the English Language (with no component score less than 4) and Mathematics.
2. International Qualifications
We accept A-levels, IB, SAT, AP, ACT, etc. For more details see the webpage of Entry Requirement for International Student.

International Students

Year One Entry

We welcome applications from high-quality candidates in all subjects with appropriate high school or equivalent qualifications. Students will normally be expected to have a high standing in their high school performance with a minimum B average in all subjects as well as relevant subjects.

Year Two Entry

Students who have completed A-levels or International Baccalaureate (or equivalent) will be considered for entry into Year Two, different programs have different subject-relevant requirements.

  • A-level: BBB
  • IB Diploma: 30 points
  • Advanced Placement Tests/Subject SATS–High school diploma with a GPA of 3.0/4.0 or above, plus:
    1. 3 SAT II Subject Test 600+ or
    2. 3 AP exams 4+ or
    3. Either SAT I Test at 1280+ or ACT Composite Score at 27 and 2 AP exams 4+ or 2 SAT II Subject Test 600+

Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool Eligibility: 

  • Any international or HK/Macau/Taiwan student who has applied or is applying for full-time undergraduate degree programmes at XJTLU starting in September of the 2017/18 academic year.
  • In each academic year during his/her study at XJTLU, the average score of all courses should be top 25% among all the students on the same academic program.

Nationality: International students or Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan can apply for these undergraduate scholarships.

English Language Requirements

For international applicants, if you are a non-native English speaker, or if you have not previously studied in English, you must have satisfactory English language skills to study at XJTLU. Various English qualifications are accepted:

Year One Entry

  • IELTS: 5.0 (min 4.5 in all sections)
  • TOEFL: 62 (iBT)

Year Two Entry

  • IELTS 6.5 (min 5.5 in all sections)
  • TOEFL: 90 (iBT) (min 21 in any skill)

English qualifications are not required for students from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan who take the Joint Examination or the GSAT.

Students who are entering into Year One with less than IELTS 6.0 or equivalent in their English proficiency will take 10 credits EAP, and students with IELTS 6.0 or above will take 5 credits EAP.

Notes:

If normal IELTS / TOEFL testing is not possible due to covid-19 localized Testing center closures, we will accept the following test.

IELTS Indicator Test is accepted for Year 1 entry for 2021 Sep intake.
TOEFL iBT Special Home Test is accepted for both Year 1 and Year 2 entry for 2021 Sep intake.
