The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) began the 2021 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) across the country on Saturday, with the first batch of applicants taking the Computer Based Test (CBT).

According to JAMB, more than 1.3 million students successfully enrolled for the exam, which is set to run through July 3rd, 2021.

Some candidates are concerned that they may not be able to finish their registration process on time owing to difficulties with the National Identification Number (NIN), which was made mandatory for registration in 2021.

However, JAMB guaranteed that accommodations will be made to suit such applicants’ interests.

Candidates who were scheduled to take the test on the first day gathered at various CBT centers around the country with their parents and guardians to get accredited accreditation in order to take the exam.

Almost every applicant in the Jamb CBT centers that our reporter observed had a chaperone with them.

Because of the security situation around the country, some parents who talked with The Guardian said they accompanied their children to the examination centers.

Candidates who were scheduled to take the test on the first day flocked to CBT centers around the country with their parents and guardians to receive accreditation in order to take the exam.

Almost every candidate at all the Jamb CBT center monitored by our correspondent came with a chaperone.

The JAMB Acting Director stated that the board will hold a make-up test for applicants who were unable to write the examination on the scheduled day due to other pressing concerns.

Further JAMB Updates Including NIN

Prof Ishaq Oloyede, JAMB registrar, has repeatedly reassured candidates and other stakeholders that adequate plans have been made to ensure seamless exercise.

He stated that the Board is dedicated to the system’s integrity, therefore applicants’ interests, particularly those with NIN issues, would be considered.

In a related event, JAMB’s Lagos Zonal office said that 95 percent of candidates for the 2021 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME) satisfied the mandatory criterion of a National Identification Number (NIN).

The announcement comes after JAMB previously informed candidates that those who do not get their NIN will be unable to complete their registration. As a result, will not be allowed to appear for the examination.

Mr Shittu Billiaminu, the Acting Director of JAMB, stated in Lagos that the board has continuously worked with the NIMC to ensure that all applicants who desired to write the examination received their NIN.

To guarantee a thorough registration procedure and improved understanding between their wards and the board, the JAMB chief advised parents to enable their kids to manage JAMB registration themselves.

“One of the difficulties we have is that our parents do not allow us to rest,” he explained.

They repeatedly knock on the JAMB gate, and when we give them entrance, they are unable to respond to our inquiries.

Some of them don’t know their wards’ profile code when JAMB asks for it. In fact, we’ve made it a policy to deal directly with applicants.’

JAMB would continue to preserve the standard, according to the acting director.
