Also, in an interview for this position, you can expect to deal with difficult behavioural questions and questions that will examine your attitude to these challenges.

What is an Interview?

An interview is essentially a structured conversation where one participant asks questions, and the other provides answers.

However, the term “interview” is commonly used to refer to a one-on-one dialogue between an interviewer and an interviewee.

In addition, an interview might transmit “information” or replies in both directions. Furthermore, interviews are typically conducted in person and face-to-face.

In some, they separate geographically the parties, connecting by methods such as video conferencing or telephone interviews.

Also, interviews almost always involve spoken conversation between two or more parties. In some instances, a “conversation” can happen between two people who type their questions and answers.

Preparing for the Nurse Practitioner Interview

It is important to note that interviews vary. And this depends on the interviewer and the organisation conducting the interview. Also, some interviews may be very relaxed and minimal.

This is because the practice greatly needs a provider, so the job was yours before you even sat down. Also, others may be a standardised set of questions that every applicant must answer.

However, regardless of the interview style, a little preparation goes a long way.

Interviews in healthcare emphasize behavioural interview questions. Behavioural interview questions are used to determine if you are the right fit for the job based on how you reacted to specific scenarios in the past.

While preparing for the Nurse Practitioner interview, your brainstorming should focus on scenarios related to:

1. Teamwork

2. Leadership

3. Problem-solving

4. Failures

5. Handling conflict and stress

Accessing these memories ahead of time will improve your ability to recall information quickly during the interview.

Other Personal Nurse Practitioner Interview Questions

4. What do you like to do in your free time?

5. If you shall describe yourself by three words only, which words will you pick?

1. What conflict have you had with your colleague?

2. Describe a situation when you did not agree with the opinion (or decision) of your superior or supervisor, and knew that they were wrong. How did you handle that?

3. What is the biggest failure of your professional career?

4. Describe a time when you experienced a conflict of your personal and professional interests. And how did you get over it?

Nurse Practitioner Interview Questions 2021 and Sample Answer

Below are some Nurse Practitioner interview questions 2021 and sample answers:

1. What do you do when a patient requests unnecessary antibiotics?

Example Answer

Commonly, I listen patiently as a patient insists that I prescribe an antibiotic, despite my diagnosis of a viral infection.
Also, I show compassion, educate the patient on the differences between viral and bacterial infections, explain the potentially harmful effects of antibiotic resistance and recommend specific methods and over-the-counter medicine to effectively ease their symptoms.

2. How do you contribute to a patient’s experience?

Example Answer

Maintaining an open line of communication from the start, showing empathy and compassion, as well as being responsive and timely are techniques I incorporate into every patient experience.

3. Why did you choose to become a nurse practitioner?

Example Answer

I pursued a career as a nurse practitioner because I am invested in the care and treatment of those whom I can serve.
Also, during my education, I found that nursing particularly interested me, so I continued on to earn my nurse practitioner license.
And in this role, I can further support patients and work as part of a care team that delivers personalized care to each individual patient.

4. How do you perform under stress?

Example Answer

Some pressure in my role helps me to feel motivated and productive. However, though stress is part of the job, I have worked to develop ways to manage stress more effectively.
Also, I feel I can delegate to others well, which can help prevent overly stressful situations, as the team members are all working together to take on their share of the work.
I also react to individual situations, rather than to stress, allowing me to better handle each scenario as it arises.

5. What do you think is the most challenging aspect of working as a nurse practitioner?

Example Answer

I find it especially challenging to work with a patient who is facing a life-threatening illness or disease.
Also, this situation is difficult for me because it is emotionally difficult to be involved in. In order to overcome this challenge, I continue to pursue education and training that allows me to better respond to life-threatening illnesses and situations to help improve patient outcomes.
I also give my best effort to provide emotional support to those who are suffering.

6. How would you respond if you witnessed unethical actions from a member of your care team?

Example Answer

In my previous position, a triage nurse on our team revealed the details of a high-profile patient’s medical condition and treatment plan to the media without the patient’s consent.
This action had a direct effect on the privacy of that patient, as well as the reputation of our medical clinic.
Also, after privately  with all members of the team to determine who breached the patient’s privacy and HIPAA laws, the nurse who shared the confidential information was removed from direct care and the team.

7. What do you contribute to a patient’s care experience?

Example Answer

I start every patient interaction by making sure I am communicating clearly and effectively.
Also, I take the time to answer questions from my patients and their support people, as well as respond to their concerns quickly so they feel heard.
Furthermore, when I interact with a patient, I also focus on putting myself in their situation so I can better show compassion and empathy.

However, keep in mind though that you may also get more technical questions. Furthermore, with the information above, kindly share it with others. I wish you good luck. You will need it.
