Samsung S9 Plus VS Iphone 8 Plus: Do the Samsung S9 Plus compare to the iPhone 8 Plus? While many things have been said about Apple and Samsung phones and of recent, it seems the rivalry between the companies and their loyal costumers has even become even more intense, even going as far as trolling themselves in not-so-subtle advertisements online and in the media.

All iPhone sand Samsung Galaxy phones always-  get compared and the comparisons would never stop-  whenever they are released based on statistics ranging from price to durability to camera quality to battery capacity and so much more. While a case can be made for a while which phone is better than the other, most persons who do the comparisons do not even have the facts to argue and base their comparisons on.

What separates the iPhone 8 Plus from the Samsung S9 Plus? What makes each different from the other? All of that and more would be treated in this article so read further.

Samsung s9 plus versus iPhone 8 Plus

  • Operating System (OS) and Processor (CPU)

When comparisons are made between the iPhone 8 Plus and Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus, the common arguments are always their OS, their operating system.

The iPhone 8 Plus runs on Apple’s iOS v11 but upgradable to iOS v12 while Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus runs on the latest Android v8.0 (Oreo).

The iPhone XS also has a Hexa core CPU or processor while the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus has an Octa-core processor or CPU.

  • Storage and RAM Size

While the iPhone XS has impressive variants of 64 and 256 GB storage with a 3 GB RAM and no memory card slot, the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus has cool variants of 64 GB, 128 GB, and 256 GB storage with a massive 6GB RAM with a memory card slot too which means you can expand the memory size of the phone.

Which you think wins in this category depends on if you value storage size over RAM size.

  • Battery

We all know this is another important thing everyone looks out for because what’s the point of having a phone whose battery can’t last long enough to let you use it for a while without having to charge it every time or the battery running flat way too quickly.

In terms of battery strength, many things are considered such as the Processor, the app management capability, the power saving mode, and a few other functionalities in the phone which are available in both phones. That stated, what are the exact battery capacities of the iPhone 8 Plus and the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus?

The iPhone XS has  a battery capacity of 2691 mAh which  is non-removable, can give you a talk time of 21 hours on 3G and music playtime of up  to 60 hours on one charge which is very impressive;

While Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus sports a 3500 mAh which is also non-removable.

Here’s my verdict: Both phones could have done better with the battery capacities installed in the phones. A battery capacity of at 4000 mAh or even 4500 mAh to run all the multiple cores in both phones and for heavy usage would have been more fitting for both phones so I am not impressed with both battery capacities.

  • Display

In terms of display for phones which aren’t tablets, both the iPhone 8 Plus and the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus are impressive.

The iPhone 8 Plus has a 5.5 inches screen with scratch-resistant glass with Ion-strengthened glass, oleophobic coating while the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus carries a 6.2 inches screen with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 display.

The Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus wins in this regard and terms of display size and the toughened Corning Gorilla Glass 5 display for screen protection.

  • Sound and Radio

As it is with recent versions of the iPhone, the iPhone XS has no 3.5mm jack to plug in your headset physically while the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus has continued to retain the 3.5mm jack.

Also, the iPhone 8 Plus has no FM radio while the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus has continued to retain the FM radio.

In the terms of Sound and FM radio, the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus sure beats the iPhone XS.

  • Selfie Camera

While both the iPhone 8 Plus and the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus spot back or primary dual cameras of 12 MP and 12 MP, the iPhone 8 Plus spots a selfie camera or secondary camera of 7 MP with video capturing qualities of 1080p@60fps;

While the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus houses a selfie camera or secondary camera of 8 MP with video capturing qualities of 1440p@30fps

I can’t exactly say which phone won in this category as both give out quality pictures so whichever you pick based on camera quality would be fine.

  • Price and Colours

Of course, it is not news that iPhones are very expensive for many reasons including the way Apple brands its products and that, unlike Android which Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus runs on which is open so, iOS is only operated by Apple.

iPhone 8 Plus costs about €770 and comes in three colors such as Space Gray, Red, Silver, and Gold.

While Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus costs about €690 and comes in a wide range of exciting colors such as Midnight Black, Coral Blue, Burgundy Red, Sunrise Gold, Lilac Purple, and Titanium Gray.

The Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus edges the iPhone 8 Plus in this category.

Conclusion

While the debate about whether the iPhone 8 Plus is better than the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus, it all boils down to the users and what they look out for in a phone. Both phones are undisputedly high-end phones which are of quality and very durable.

Some might ignore the battery capacity of the iPhone 8 Plus when compared to a Samsung Galaxy S9 PLUS. Some might prefer iOS relative security compared to Android’s. Many people especially young persons might want to play around with customers’ ROMs on their phones and be allowed more freedom to tweak their phones which is more possible on the Android which the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus runs o. The cheaper price of the Galaxy S9 Plus for its affordability is also a factor for being chosen too.

There are countless reasons to make an argument for which phone is better than which but always keep in mind that what you seek in a phone might not be what the other person seeks.
