Amsterdam Merit Scholarship, which is fully funded by the University of Amsterdam, is presently accepting applications from eligible students.

The Amsterdam Merit Scholarship

The University of Amsterdam strives to draw talented individuals from across the globe to its international classrooms.

Exceptional students who are not citizens of the EU/EEA have the opportunity to seek the Amsterdam Merit Scholarship (AMS).

Value of Award

The chosen recipient is responsible for covering the tuition fees, while the scholarship itself ranges from €2,000 to €12,000.

To continue receiving the scholarship for the second year, the AES student must successfully complete all first-year courses on schedule and maintain a grade point average of 8.0 or higher.

Eligibility Criteria for Amsterdam Merit Scholarship

To be eligible for this scholarship, you must meet the following criteria:

1. Graduated within the top 10% of your class.

2. Do not hold EU/EEA or Swiss nationality.

3. Are not eligible for financial support through the Dutch study grants and loans system.

4. Are not eligible for the reduced tuition fee for EEA students at UvA.

5. Have not received a fully funded scholarship covering the same period of study as the Amsterdam Merit Scholarship.

6. Have never previously studied at any educational institution in the Netherlands.

7. Have submitted a complete application for a Dual Master’s or Research Master’s program that does not require interviews for selection, or an MSc program.

8. Have been admitted or will be admitted for the first time to UvA into a graduate program of your choice.

9. Will be enrolled as a full-time student at UvA for the academic year and program for which the scholarship is awarded.

10. Completed your previous academic program no more than three years ago.

11. Can meet the requirements for obtaining a Dutch visa if applicable.

12. Possess a minimum GPA equivalent to Cum Laude (Dutch system), first-class honors (UK), or 3.7 (USA).

13. Demonstrate motivation and excel in extracurricular activities.

14. Exhibit exceptional English language skills, with test results no older than two years. Acceptable scores include TOEFL (score of 100), IELTS (7), CAE Grade A, or CPE Grade C.

Documents to be Submitted

1. Demonstrated academic excellence and potential in the intended field of study.

2. Submission of academic records as evidence.

3. Letters of recommendation from relevant sources.

4. Written work and/or publications showcasing scholarly achievements.

5. Clearly defined research questions for consideration.

6. Submission of a compelling letter of motivation explaining the candidate’s aspirations and goals.
