In 2017, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation made an announcement about a scholarship program that commenced in 2018. The program’s objective is to grant scholarships to 3,000 students over a ten-year span.

The primary aim of this scholarship is to provide support to minority students seeking to advance their education.

This scholarship is specifically designed for students hailing from low-income households who require financial aid. Consequently, eligibility to apply for this scholarship necessitates meeting the criteria for Pell eligibility.

The Federal Pell Grant is specifically accessible to undergraduate students who are seeking their first degree and can demonstrate financial need.

Scholarship Eligibility

To meet the eligibility requirements for the Gates scholarship, you must fulfill the following conditions:

1. You must presently be in your final year of high school.

2. Your ethnicity must belong to one or more of the following categories: African-American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian & Pacific Islander American, and/or Hispanic American.

Required Documents

Throughout the application process, students will be required to submit the following documents at different stages:

1. The most recent transcript(s) (to be submitted by the counselor).

2. The Student Aid Report (SAR) after completing the FAFSA.

3. The Financial Aid Award Letter.

4. An acceptance letter from a four-year bachelor’s degree program at a non-profit, private, or public university.

5. A headshot photograph.

6. A resume.
