CIGAR Great Lakes Summer Fellows Program: Applications are open for the Cooperative Institute for Great Lakes Research (CIGAR) Great Lakes Summer Fellows Program 2020.

The program is open to students who are currently enrolled as an undergraduate (juniors and seniors preferred) and graduate student.

This program is offered by The Cooperative Institute for Great Lakes Research (CIGLR) in partnership with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Great Lakes Environmental Research Lab (GLERL).

 

 

CIGLR consists of a Research Institute and a Regional Consortium, led by an administrative team and governed by an Executive Board and Council of Fellows.

 Scholarship Description.

  • Applications Deadline: Application Closed.
  • Course Level: The fellowship is open for undergraduate (juniors and seniors preferred) and graduate students.
  • Study Subject: The scholarship will be awarded in the subjects offered by the university.
  • Scholarship Award: There is a stipend of $6,500 for the twelve-week period, paid in two installments of $3,250 each
  • Nationality: U.S. citizen or a foreign national who is residing in the U.S. on a current Student Visa are eligible to apply.
  • Number of Scholarships: There are 9 positions available.
  • Scholarship can be taken in the United States

Eligibility for the Scholarship.

CIGAR Great Lakes Summer Fellows Program

To be eligible, the applicants must be following all the given criteria:

  • Eligible Countries: U.S. citizen or a foreign national who is residing in the U.S. on a current Student Visa are eligible to apply.
  • Entrance Requirements: To be eligible, the applicants must be following all the given criteria:
  • The program is limited to currently-enrolled undergraduate (juniors and seniors preferred) and graduate students. We will also consider post-baccalaureate or post-masters students who have graduated within the past 12 months (of your fellow position start date) if the position fits directly within a student’s career goals.
  • You must be either a U.S. citizen or a foreign national who is residing in the U.S. on a current Student Visa.
  • Immediate relatives of any CIGLR or NOAA GLERL employees are not eligible to participate in this program, consistent with NOAA guidelines.

Application Procedure.

Applications are submitted through an online application process.

  • Transcripts (official or unofficial), a cover letter, and a résumé are required elements of the electronic submission. Applicants will be asked to identify and rank up to three (3) projects to which they would like to apply.
  • Along with the electronic application, we require one letter of recommendation that must be sent directly from the writer via email. The recommendation letter should be sent to the attention of Mary Ogdahl (see contact information below). All letters must be received by 22 February 2020.
  • Project mentors will review the applications once they are submitted. After an initial review, the project mentor will conduct phone interviews with the top candidates to discuss the project in more detail and ensure a match in interest and skills.
