1. Sasol Undergraduate/Postgraduate Bursary Scheme Programme for South African Students

This is one of the free scholarships in South Africa. And it’s specially designed for South African students. Also, it’s for undergraduates and postgraduates. And it’s in the field of engineering and science. This is in any of the South African universities.
However, it’s important to note that Sasol was established in 1950. And is an integrated international chemical and energy company. It has about 30,300 people working in 33 countries.

Also, Sasol produces a variety of essential products. Such as liquid fuels, chemicals and low carbon electricity. And Sasol is listed on the JSE in South Africa. Also, it’s on the New York Stock Exchange in the United States.
The Sasol bursary program is a lever of critical talent. And that allows one to meet his/her strategic and transformation goals. Also, it’s a talent-based scheme for South African citizens.
Sasol Scholarship Plan includes a comprehensive package. And it covers both financial support and development. This is throughout the study period. And the bursaries awarded are for full-time university studies. Also, importantly, please note this.
Upon successful completion of the study period, students can be employed within the Sasol Group. And this is through the Postgraduate Development Program.

Sasol Bursary Scheme Benefits

The following are some of its benefits:
1. There is 100% of the prescribed university tuition fees. Also, it covers enrollment fees. And exam fees.
2. Furthermore, it covers an amount equal to the average rate of accommodation in a single room in a university residence.
And this is at the university where Sasol’s bursar is studying. Sasol determines this rate together with the university.
3. Also, there is an amount for meals. However, this is based on three meals per day. And as determined by the university.
4. Also, it covers an amount of approximately R12,000.00. And this is per year, for books and pocket money.
5. Furthermore, it covers the prescribed tuition fees. And enrollment fees. Also, exam fees are paid directly to the university.
6. And, accommodation fees are paid directly to the university. This is if the student stays in university-managed accommodation. However, students must pay for repeated subjects.
7. Also, in cases where the student chooses to remain in a non-university managed accommodation, the money instead of the accommodation and meals will be paid directly to the individual. Thus, in such cases, the quantities will be limited to what is prescribed in points 2 and 3 above.
8. Also, books and pocket money will be paid directly to the person.
9. However, payments regarding the above are made twice a year. And the first payment is made at the beginning of the first semester. Also, the second payment is made at the beginning of the second semester.
10. Additionally, full details of the payment process and the requirements that must be met are communicated to the selected applicants. This is once a scholarship has been awarded.
11. And selected applicants will be contractually obligated to work in Sasol. However, this is after graduation for a period equal to the duration of the scholarship.
12. And Postgraduate students receive a monthly allowance of around R10,000. This is for the duration of their studies. And it’s 24 months of master’s degree and 36 months of doctorate.


To be eligible, you must meet these criteria;
1. You must apply for full-time studies. And this should be to obtain an academic degree. And at an accredited South African university.
2. Also, you must be a South African citizen. With a valid identification number.
3. And all applicants invited to attend an interview must be willing to undergo psychometric tests.

Criteria for selection

1. Applications for undergraduate and Postgraduate must be sent to Sasol. And this is no later than April 30, 2020.
2. Also, applications must be submitted online.
3. And applicants, who do not have Internet access or access to an Internet cafe in their area, can contact our Sasol Scholarship Application Helpline at 086 010 6235 for help.
4. Also, all shortlisted applicants to attend an interview will be notified at the end of May 2020. And the notification is made by phone and written correspondence.
5. Additionally, selection interviews generally take place during the public school holidays of June/July of each year.
Thus applicants will be evaluated through a structured panel interview. As well as psychometric tests. And, therefore, will be required to stay in Secunda for one night.
6. Applicants will receive a reimbursement for travel expenses to attend the selection day up to a maximum amount, as determined by Sasol.
7. The result of the selection event will be communicated to the applicants at the end of August. However, please note that no correspondence will be maintained in this regard before this date.
8. Also, selected candidates will receive full documentation related to the Sasol Scholarship Program. And a written contract and other documentation to complete.
9. Additionally, scholarships are awarded to begin in the following academic year. And no payments are made with respect to studies already completed.

Applications will be disqualified if you fail to submit all the required documents. And should any information submitted be found to be incorrect or untruthful, your application will be disqualified.
Also, a reference check will be conducted for every application. Thus, if you do not receive feedback from the Academy by 15 March 2022, your application is not successful.

After Submission, what Next?

Applicants will receive a confirmation email upon receipt of the application. And then, all applications are evaluated by at least three preliminary evaluators from FirstRand to previous winners of the scholarship.
Also, after evaluation, the board drafts a list of worthy applicants to be interviewed in Cape Town or Sandton. And then, four shortlisted candidates are selected for the two education scholarships.
Also, and are mandated to be available for the final interviews held in Sandton on Wednesday 17th April 2022.
Furthermore, ten shortlisted candidates are further selected. And this is for the FirstRand Laurie Dippenaar. Also, for FirstRand Foundation International Postgraduate Scholarships.
And the FirstRand Oxford African Studies Scholarship. However, you have to be available for the final interviews held in Sandton on Tuesday 21st April 2021. Lastly, the last announcement will be made before the end of June 2020.
