Full Scholarships for African Students There are many scholarships for African students both in African countries and abroad. These scholarships are either fully funded or partially funded; by fully funded, it means that they cover tuition fees and contributions towards living costs, accommodations, and some other expenses while partially funded only covers tuition fees or living costs and other expenses but not all of them.

 

Full Scholarships for African Students

Below is the list of 15 full scholarships for African students for both in Africa and abroad:

1. Intra-Africa Academic Master Program Mobility program

Deadline: June 9th

In collaboration with the African Union, the Intra-Africa Academic Mobility Scheme of the European Union is offering HEED-Africa program to study abroad.

This program is available for African students who wish to conduct a master’s degree program at any of the host universities.

This award will provide economics class roundtrip flight ticket and visa costs, insurance, a monthly allowance of 700 Euro, one-off settling in allowance of 700 Euro upon arrival to cover installation costs plus an extra 700 Euro allowance for female master students per year.

2. UNSW Gail Kelly Global Leaders Scholarship in Australia

Deadline: May 24th

The University of New South Wales is offering Gail Kelly Global Leaders Scholarship in Australia for Australian and South African Students who wish to obtain an undergraduate degree at UNSW. The bursary will be awarded worth up to $20,000 to each successful scholar.

3. UCT/SKA Doctoral Scholarship in South Africa

Deadline: May 31st

The Astronomy Department at the University of Cape Town is delighted to provide UCT/SKA Doctoral Scholarship to students from South Africa and the African SKA partner countries.

The program is open to support students who wish to register in the Astronomy Department for full-time Doctoral study. The value of the scholarship is worth up to R125,000 per annum.

4. IIE MSA international awards in South Africa

Deadline: November 15th

Monash South Africa is inviting applications for the IIE MSA Scholarships in South Africa. This program is open to provide learning opportunities to the brilliant South African and international students, who enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student at MSA. The bursary covers a total of 25% – 100% of your annual fees.

5. Helwan University International Students program in Egypt

Deadline: May 31st

Helwan University is solving the issue of the cost by offering its international program to support high potential applicants of any nationality (Non-Egypt) in their undergraduate and postgraduate studies by covering some of their study expenses and tuition fee.

6. Government Fully Funded funding for Ghanaian Students in the USA

Deadline: June 8th

The U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educate and Cultural Affairs are offering the Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study (YES) Program for the high performing students of Ghana.

The award will cover travel expenses, health and accident insurance, dental care, monthly allowance, etc.

7. UDS WACWISA Masters and Ph.D. Positions in Ghana

Deadline: July 10th

The West African Centre for Water, Irrigation and Sustainable Agriculture (WACWISA) at the University for Development Studies, Ghana is accepting applications for Masters and Ph.D. Positions in Irrigation and Drainage Engineering.

The scholarship will provide tuition, research, and learning costs, monthly stipend, travel expenses, etc.

8. CIK Gems program in Uganda

Deadline: June 4th

GEMS Cambridge International School Kampala (CIK) is organizing the Gems program for the eligible students to recognize and supporting student excellence. The bursary will cover the 50 – 100% tuition fee of the course.

9. KAS and UMU Scholarships for Citizens of Uganda and South Sudan in Germany

Deadline: April 30th

In association with Uganda Martyrs University (UMU), the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) is awarding scholarships for the eligible candidates from Uganda and South Sudan to pursue bachelor and master’s degree program across a range of social, political, and economic fields.

The grant will cover the cost of tuition and the residential workshops as charged by the university.

10. SA-GER CDR funding for Sub-Saharan African Students in South Africa

Deadline: November 30th

SA-GER CDR Foundation is putting forth the brilliant opportunity for the students to acquire a fully-funded position at the University of the Western Cape. Only students from Sub-Saharan African countries are eligible.

The grant provides monthly allowances of 650 Euro in addition to travel stipends for Master competitors and 900 Euro in addition to travel recompenses for Ph.D. applicants.

11. University of Ghana School of Public Health WHO HRP Alliance Postgraduate Scholarship

Deadline: April 12th

Students from the African Region have an opportunity to get an award in Ghana. The University of Ghana’s School of Public Health is now accepting the applications for the WHO HRP Alliance Postgraduate Scholarship.

The grant is available to study a full-time master’s degree in Public Health and a Ph.D. degree at the university. The program is open to cover the tuition fee of the course.

12. DAAD In-Country/In-Region Ph.D. Scholarships Eastern Africa at Strathmore University, Kenya

Deadline: February 24th

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) in collaboration with the Initiative to Develop African Research Leaders (IDeAL), KEMRI-Wellcome Trust Research Program (KWTRP) and Strathmore University is offering DAAD In-Country/In-Region Ph.D. Scholarships Eastern Africa Kenya.

This scholarship is available to the citizens of a country in Sub-Saharan Africa. The award includes full tuition fees, a monthly stipend, and research costs.

13. SAAB Scholarship in South Africa for Students from SADC Countries

Deadline: February 27th

Applications are open for the SAAB Scholarship funded by the South African Association of Botanists in South Africa.

The grant is open to the applicants who are graduated with a minimum overall average of 70% and study at a tertiary institution in South Africa.

The value of the scholarship is up to R10 000 each for studies at Honours level (or 4th year), in a botanically-related science field of study.

14. Afresist Youth Leadership Program (AYLP) for African

Deadline: February 11th

Applications are open for the Afresist Youth Leadership Program (AYLP) created by activists of Afrika Youth Movement (AYM). This program is open to Africans residing in Africa.

The program covers full and partial financial aid positions; the full award includes travel, accommodation, and program registration while the partial award includes accommodation and program registration.

15. Royal Society Africa Prize for African Applicants in the UK

Deadline: January 28th

The Royal Society is inviting applications for the Royal Society Africa Prize in the UK. The prize is open to research scientists based in Africa who are making an innovative contribution to the biological sciences, including basic medical science, which contributes significantly to capacity building in Africa.

The winner will receive a bronze medal, an £11,000 grant towards their research project and a gift of £1,000.
