The Shell Scholarship Scheme

The Shell Nigeria Scholarship scheme is a programme provided by SPDC on behalf of the NNPC/Shell/Elf/Agip Joint Venture. Also, it makes a quiet but very profound commentary on the company’s interest in the promotion of capacity building in the country.

Also, every year, more than 4,000 Nigerian students write aptitude tests to join the evergrowing list of students which Shell Nigeria supports in Nigerian Universities. Furthermore, applicants are shortlisted on the basis of the national SSCE and JAMB examination results.

  • Abia and Akwa Ibom states.

Furthermore, the Cradle-to-Career scheme is designed to bridge educational inequalities resulting from geographic and socio-economic difference.

Duration of the Scheme

At the 2011 United Nations (UN) Innovations Fair in Geneva, the UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-Moon described the scheme as “a landmark initiative”.

Categories of the Scholarship Scheme

  • The National Merit Award (NM). And this is open to Nigerian undergraduates
  • Areas of Operation Merit Award (AOM). And this is for students from communities in which Shell Nigeria operates.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualified for the Shell Scholarship for Secondary School, applicant:

  • Must display intellectual ability and leadership potential.
  • Also, must have an adequate standard of English. At least 6.5 in IELTS. And must meet the College’s language requirement.
  • Furthermore, must not have already had the chance of studying in the UK or other developed country.
