The Netherlands government scholarships have been at the top of the List of Scholarships that are highly demanded by most Students. In addition, scholarships can also come from individuals, NGOs, and universities in the Netherlands.

So here is a list of the top 10 Netherlands scholarships for international students:

1. Netherlands Fellowship Programme

Deadline: Varies

The Netherlands Fellowship Programmes (NFP) encourages capacity building within organizations in 51 countries by providing fellowships for training and education for professionals. The NFP offers fellowships for qualified Master studies, Ph.D. studies, or short courses offered at participating Dutch Universities.

The chances of obtaining an NFP fellowship increase if you live and work in Sub-Saharan Africa and/or if you are a woman. An NFP fellowship is intended to supplement the salary that the fellow should continue to receive during the study period.

The allowance is a contribution towards the costs of living, the costs of tuition fees, visas, travel, insurance, and thesis research. If applicable, the fellowship holder is expected to cover the difference between the actual costs and the amount of the personal NFP allowances.

2. TU Delft Excellence Scholarships for International Students

Deadline: December 1st

The Delft University of Technology offers a number of excellence scholarship programs for international students. The Justus & Louise van Effen Scholarship is one of those programs and its aimed at financially supporting excellent international MSc students who wish to study at TU Delft. The scholarship covers a full fee waiver for a TUDelft MSc programme and living expenses for 2 years.

3. Holland Scholarship for Non-EEA International Students

Deadline: May 1st

The Holland Scholarship, financed by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture, and Science, is meant for international students from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) who want to do their bachelor’s or master’s programme at one of the Dutch research universities and universities of applied sciences in Holland.

The scholarship amounts to €5,000.  Note that this is not a full-tuition scholarship.  The grant is awarded for one year and can only be received once.

4. Leiden University Excellence Scholarships (LexS)

Deadline: October 1st

The Leiden University Excellence Scholarship Programme (LExS) is open to outstanding Non-EU/EEA students enrolling in a master’s degree programme at Leiden University. The level/field of study includes all MA, MSc, and LL.M programmes.

The Leiden University Excellence Scholarship programme has 3 awards:

  • € 10.000 of the tuition fee
  • € 15.000 of the tuition fee
  • Total tuition fee minus the statutory tuition fee

The LExS is only valid for the period the student is registered at Leiden University as a full-time student within the time frame of the study programme.

5. Maastricht University Holland High Potential Scholarships for International Students

Deadline: February 1st

The Holland High Potential Scholarship is intended for excellent students from outside the European Union/European Economic Area (EU/EEA) who wish to do a Master’s or a professional education programme at Maastricht University.

The Holland High Potential Scholarship consists of a High Potential Scholarship combined with a Holland Scholarship. The High Potential scholarship is awarded for the duration of the Master’s programme, 13 months for a one-year master’s programme and 25 months for a two-year master’s programme.

The scholarship covers living expenses (€12,350 – 13 months; €23,750 – 25 months), health and liability insurance (€710), visa application costs (€317), tuition fee (€13,000, €15,000 or €17,500, depending on the tuition of your study programme), and pre-academic training costs (€825)

6. Amsterdam Excellence Scholarships (AES)

The Amsterdam Excellence Scholarships (AES) awards scholarships to exceptionally talented students from outside Europe to pursue eligible Master’s Programmes offered at the University of Amsterdam.

The AES is a full scholarship of €25,000 (covering tuition and living expenses) for one academic year with the possibility of extension for a second year for two-year Master’s programmes.

7. VU Amsterdam Fellowship Programme for International Students

Deadline: February 1st

The VU Fellowship Programme (VUFP) offers talented prospective international students the unique opportunity to pursue a Master’s degree at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. The level/field(s) of study is English-taught Master’s Degree Programmes offered at the University.

The VUFP scholarship is a tuition fee waiver. VUFP scholarship does not provide any additional allowance towards study or living costs.

8. World Citizen Talent Scholarship for International Student

Deadline: March 31st

Every year, 54) scholarships each worth EUR 5,000 is available to prospective bachelor’s or master’s degree students. The University is seeking young, intelligent, talented and ambitious people who view themselves as citizens of the world. Each scholarship is worth € 5,000.

9. Utrecht Excellence Scholarships for International

Deadline: February 1st

The Utrecht Excellence Scholarship offers a number of outstanding prospective students the opportunity to pursue a Master’s degree in a selected number of fields at Utrecht University.

The Utrecht Excellence scholarship can be awarded as tuition fees OR tuition fees plus € 11,000 living expenses. As the grant is not automatically a full scholarship, it may be necessary to find additional funding to be able to finance your studies and stay completely.

The scholarship is awarded for the duration of the degree programme, which is one or two years, depending on the degree programme. The scholarship will only be renewed for the second year if the student is making satisfactory progress towards the degree.

10. Radboud Scholarship Programme for International Students

The Radboud Scholarship Programme offers a selected number of talented prospective non-EEA students the opportunity to receive a scholarship to pursue a complete English-taught Master’s degree programme at Radboud University.

The scholarship consists of a partial tuition waiver. The tuition fee will be waived to the level of an EEA student. For example, a grant holder in 2019/2020 will pay a tuition fee of only €2,060, instead of €9,879 or €10,856.

Additionally, the Radboud Scholarship also covers costs such as those for a visa, residence permit, health insurance, and liability insurance. This amounts to about €940. Please note that the Radboud Scholarship is not a full scholarship and does not include living costs.
