Wesleyan University Scholarships 2021: Wesleyan is one of the most highly selective institutions in the United States, and admission is competitive, with nearly 13,000 applicants.

Applicants are expected to have a strong secondary school preparation in English, social science, science, mathematics, and a foreign language.

Candidates studying at schools outside the US who have taken national examinations for university admission (A levels, French Baccalaureate, ISC, International Baccalaureate, etc.) are expected to have achieved superior results.

A high degree of proficiency in English, as described below, is also required to be demonstrated. Wesleyan provides support services for students who speak English as a second language through the English Department and the Writing Workshop.

All students applying for undergraduate admission who have not yet attended a university for one full year will be considered applicants to the first-year class.

Those who have completed a year or more at a university will be considered transfer applicants. Please note that students may not discount credit to be considered first-year students.

The Wesleyan Freeman Asian Scholars Program

The Wesleyan Freeman Asian Scholars Program provides full-tuition scholarships for a four-year course of study at Wesleyan toward a bachelor’s degree for 11 exceptionally able Asian students. One citizen is selected from each of those 11 countries and regions:

The People’s Republic of China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam.

To qualify, students must be citizens or permanent residents of one of these countries (and not dual U.S. citizens or permanent residents). Transfer applicants are not eligible for the Freeman Asian Scholarship.

The University has launched a blog and official WeChat channel with the goal of providing accurate and informative details about Wesleyan as well as the US college admissions process for prospective students and parents from mainland China.

Standardized Tests for Admission

Applicants regardless of citizenship attending schools outside the US and Canada are not required to submit any SAT or ACT test results if actual or predicted results for national, standardized, subject-based examinations such as the ‘A’ levels, French Baccalaureat, ISC, German Abitur, etc. are submitted by the student’s school.

Both actual and predicted results would be preferred in cases where both are available. Students in an IB curriculum are expected to submit any predicted or actual IB exam results.

Applicants in the People’s Republic of China, where the SAT is not available, are exempt from this requirement.

Students in high schools outside of the US and Canada that follow an American curriculum are not required to submit SAT or ACT. If a student in high school outside the US and Canada cannot present any of the above external exams and is not enrolled in an American curriculum.

They will be required to submit SAT or ACT. Actual exam results should be submitted after matriculation for all students.

Demonstration of English Proficiency

Because English is the language of instruction at Wesleyan, English language proficiency must be demonstrated before you are admitted to the University. Wesleyan does not offer any remedial English courses.

Therefore, we highly recommend that applicants living outside the US for whom English is NOT their first language demonstrate proficiency with one or more of the following:

A score of 100 or higher on the internet-based TOEFL, a 600 on the paper-based TOEFL, or a 7.0 or higher on the IELTS, 650 or higher critical reading section of the old SAT, or a 700 on the Evidence-Based Reading and Writing section of the new SAT, or 29 Reading and English section scores or English and Language Arts (ELA) combined score on the ACT, are expected in most cases.

While Wesleyan is test-optional for most applicants, please note that if you wish to submit your SAT or ACT as proof of English proficiency, you must submit all sections of the SAT or ACT, not just the Evidence-Based Reading and Writing section on the SAT or English and Reading sections of the ACT.

If you plan to use this option to demonstrate English proficiency, you must select “SAT” or “ACT” as your test to be considered on the Common Application when applying to Wesleyan.

Support for International Students
