About Wits University Scholarships

The School of Public Health at the University of the Witwatersrand, in collaboration with the World Health Organization’s Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases (TDR) in Geneva, Switzerland, invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for a full scholarship to pursue the full-time Master Degree Programme in Implementation Science.

Candidates from a variety of disciplines, including clinical and other health-related subjects, statistics and other quantitative fields, as well as demography and social sciences, are eligible to apply for the degree program. Candidates who want to get further involved in health-related research should be interested in the degree program.

The TDR Postgraduate Training Scheme, which aims to develop capacity in implementation research, includes the University of the Witwatersrand, which is one of seven universities around the world, taking part.

Implementation research is a rapidly emerging discipline that aids in the discovery of health system bottlenecks and techniques for addressing them. It is valuable in low- and middle-income countries, where many health interventions do not reach those who need them.

The TDR’s focus on improving the health and well-being of people affected by infectious diseases of poverty through research and innovation aligns with the goal of strengthening capacity in implementation research on infectious diseases of poverty (in particular, neglected tropical diseases, malaria, and tuberculosis) and increasing the number of researchers and practitioners in low and middle-income countries.
