Brief History Of  BYU Hawaii

Established in 1954, Brigham Young University-Hawaii aims at the fusion of spiritual and secular learning to provide leadership qualities to its students. BYU is affiliated with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and attracts international students from over 70 countries.

In 2018 at the time of the Fall semester, the count of enrolled students was 3,176. Out of these students, 46% of the students were international students. The University enrolls around 1,000 students per year (973 in Fall 2019).

BYU–Hawaii exists to provide an education consistent with the religious and family values taught by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The Admissions office gives preference to members of the Church in good standing but will not unlawfully discriminate against applicants based upon gender, race, creed, religion, national origin, age, or disability who meet the requirements, who agree to abide by the Honor Code and Dress and Grooming Standards, and who are otherwise qualified based upon available space.

High standards of honor, integrity, and morality, graciousness in personal behavior, application of Christian ideals in everyday living, and abstinence from tobacco, alcohol, and harmful drugs are required of every student.

BYU Hawaii Application Methods

Brigham Young University offers a range of programs with 50 Majors, 65 Minors, and 15 Certificate programs. BYU Hawaii Application provides Certificate, Associate, and Bachelor’s degree undergraduate courses in various disciplines including Accounting, Visual Arts, Biological Sciences, Computer & Information Sciences, Business Management, and Psychology to name a few.

  • Students can apply for admission in Fall, Winter, Spring, or Summer Semester at Brigham Young University.
  • The University has a non-refundable application fee of 35 USD. 
  • With a 97% acceptance rate, it is quite easy to secure admission to the university.
  • The university has a 63% retention rate and 65% of overall graduation rate with an almost equal number of male and female students graduating from the university. 
  • The university offers financial aid and requires a separate application for that. The deadline to apply for a scholarship provided by Brigham Young University is generally October 31, the applicants also have to fulfill the required documentation.
  • The cost of attendance of programs in BYU is approximately 19,776 USD for those who stay on campus.

To apply for any of the programs in the university, international students must submit the following documents prior to their admission:

  • Completed application with the application fee
  • Official transcripts in English
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • Documentation of sufficient funds
  • Total funds covering the cost of the first year of school, books, and living expenses for spouse and/or children. 
  • It also involves Official Bank statements as proof of liquid assets.
  • Scores of required standardized tests 
  • A copy of passport ID pages and current photograph
  • The applicants have to make a deposit of 4,000 USD to confirm their admission in order to receive the I-20 form.
  • Optional Requirements; Resume, Work Experience, Statement of Purpose

English Proficiency Test Score for International Students

International students belonging to non-native speaking countries must submit scores of TOEFL, IELTS, or other acceptable tests to demonstrate their proficiency in the English language.

International students must apply for a USA Study Visa to get admission into any of the programs offered by BYU Hawaii. Documents required for applying for an F1 visa are:

  • Valid passport
  • I-20 Form
  • Form DS-160 for non-immigrant visa applications
  • Receipt of SEVIS fee
  • Proof of paid F1 visa fee 
  • Two photographs meeting the US Visa Photo Requirements
  • Original Transcript
  • Standardized test score (TOEFL, IELTS, GRE, GMAT)
  • Acceptance letter from Brigham Young University-Hawaii 

Note: Applicants must schedule an appointment at the U.S. embassy or consulate. After submitting all the required documents at the embassy, they have to attend the Visa interview. The processing time of the F1 visa is shorter than other Visas. In most of the cases, applicants get the response of Visa immediately after their interview.
