At some point, it seemed like achieving a distinction in medicine was a very difficult task but it is wonderful to know that the jinx has been broken at Olabisi Onabanjo University.

The young man who was identified as Olugbenga Alabi has emerged with a distinction in medicine.

According to reports, Alabi had 7 distinctions in 10 courses and this award was presented to him the institution’s combined convocation held last Tuesday.
Speaking to newsmen, he said he was glad to have achieved the feat of being the first to graduate with MBChB with Honours in the history of this university.

He said he went through the requirements of achieving a first class and saw it as an impossible task,but today he has achieved it, giving all thanks to allah.

Alabi stood tall on the podium to address his colleagues, he said getting to the zenith of a man’s aspiration is substantially determined by God and not by human’s efforts.

He said the reason why he is standing in front of them might be as a result of outstanding academic performance but he couldn’t have done it without the blessings and favour of God.

He noted that he believes only in prayer, diligence and hard work, he advised his fellow students to read, assimilate and teach others or engage in academic discourse with them.

He included humility as another key to making it in life as well as forming the habit of having good mentors and seeking advice from them.

According to him, he is not an introvert. He maintained a modest social life, adding that he tries as much as possible to maintain his bounds with friends.

He mentioned that he has so many girlfriends but has just one fiancee who he said has really tried for him.

Alabi who is now in his late 20’s said he would not wait to complete his internship before thinking of a postgraduate programme to pursue in clinicals and academics.
