University of Stellenbosch Business School – The University of Stellenbosch Business School (USB), located in the Tyger Valley business district in the northern part of Cape Town, offers a wide range of internationally accredited management and leadership programmes.

1. Full-Time MBA:

This programme is completed over two years.   • Responsible leadership skills: USB’s Masters in Business Administration is strongly committed to your development as a responsible leader, focusing on the personal, relationship and organizational or strategic leadership. This bespoke journey spans the entire MBA.
  • Expert decision-making skills: These skills are based on a combination of numeric and qualitative methods to support complex business decisions.
Program Requirements

To apply for the generalist MBA programme you must meet the following requirements:

  1. 4-year Bachelor’s degree (NQF level 8) and at least 3 years of relevant full-time working experience
  2. OR Honours degree (NQF level 8), plus 3 years of relevant full-time working experience
  3. OR 3-year Bachelor’s degree (NQF level 7) plus a postgraduate diploma (NQF level 8) and at least 3 years of relevant working experience
  4. The working experience should preferably be on a managerial level. Also, note that USB’s one-year Postgraduate Diploma in Business Management and Administration (NQF level 8 with 120 credits) is aimed at preparing students for the Masters in Business Administration.
Other requirements:
  1. Mathematics at NNS (Grade 12) level or equivalent
  2. A comprehensive CV
  3. 2 essays, showing the candidate’s level of motivation and working experience
  4. Satisfactory selection test results for either the SHL or GMAT selection tests

2. Ph.D. in Development Finance

The focus of USB’s Ph.D. in Development Finance is specialized research to support the growth agendas of South Africa and Africa. Doing research at a Ph.D. level will enable you to contribute to a crucial understanding of development finance.

Advanced knowledge of development finance is typically required in senior positions in policy-making institutions, government, public and private corporations, financial institutions and international organizations.

During the first year of this programme, you need to attend 2 blocks of 2 weeks each on the USB campus. During this time, you will acquire advanced research techniques and a thorough understanding of the theory and practice of development finance, allowing you to finalize a comprehensive research proposal.

During the second and subsequent years, you will do supervised research, culminating in a Ph.D. degree.

Admission Requirements for Program

To apply for the Ph.D. in Development Finance you must meet the following requirements:

  1. A good master’s degree in Development Finance, Economics, Finance or allied field
  2. A strong quantitative background.
  3. International students require a SAQA evaluation certificate to evaluate your degree according to South African standards.
