This article gives a list of the notable alumni of the University of Lagos. This list includes famous and respected people like businessmen, celebrities, politicians, etc.

Note: not all of the following individuals graduated with a degree from the University, some of them dropped out before completing their education.

  1. Dele Olojede

Dele Olojede is a famous Nigerian journalist. He began his career at the National Concord newspaper. He left his job in 1984, because the owner of the newspaper used his publishing house for political benefits. He also worked as Newsday’s editor for foreign news.

Olojede has won a lot of journalist’s awards and he happens to be the first African-born to receive a Pulitzer Prize.

  1. Genevieve Nnaji

Genevieve is a Nollywood actress, model and singer. During her career, she has won the Africa Movie Academy Award; she was nominated in the category of Best Actress in a Leading Role in 2005.

Since then, she has contributed enormously to the Nollywood industry. As a result of this, she has been made a Member of the Order of the Federal Republic by the Nigerian Government.

  1. Joy Uche Angela Ogwu

Joy Uche was the former Foreign Minister of Nigeria. She also served the UN in New York as the Permanent Representative of Nigeria, since 2008. She is the woman in the history of Nigeria to occupy such position. She has also published interesting books.

  1. Gbenga Daniel

Gbenga was the former Governor of Ogun state. He is now a machine politician in People’s Democratic Party (PDP), one of the main parties in Nigeria. He also owns the daily newspaper, the Nigerian Compass.

  1. Richard Mofe Damijo

He is a successful actor and politician. He received an award in the category of the “Best Actor in a Leading Role” at the African Movie Academy Award in 2005. After some years, he got the post of the Commissioner of Culture and Tourism in Delta state.

  1. Stella Damasus-Aboderin

Stella is an amazing Nigerian actress and also a singer. She also worked on the radio for a period of time. She appeared on TV screens after graduating from the University. Stella was nominated for “Best Actress in a Leading Role” in 2009. In 2012, she received the “Best Actress Award”.

  1. Ufuoma Ejenobor

Ufuoma became a model after graduating from the University. In 2010, she was nominated for “Best Actress” during the Monte Carlo Television Festival due to her impressive acting skills.

  1. Bajo Ojo

Bajo Ojo is the former Prosecutor General of Nigeria. He was also in charge of the Federal Ministry of Justice. He studied in the University of Lagos and also obtained Master of Laws at the University of London. As a result, he is licensed to practice law in Britain and Nigeria. He became famous not only in Nigeria but also abroad.

  1. Obiageli Ezekwesili

Obiageli is a certified public accountant. She is one of the founders of Transparency International. She was also the Vice President of the World Bank’s Africa division. Obiageli also held the position of the Federal Minister of Solid Mineral and Minister of Education.
