University of Toronto Business School

History of the School

The Rotman School’s history in business education goes back to 1901, when a diploma program in Commerce was established at the University of Toronto.

The School of Business became a faculty in 1972, and was renamed in honor of graduate and donor Joseph L. Rotman in 1995. Since then, the school has quadrupled its endowment, and tripled its physical footprint, its faculty and its student body.

As one of the top-ranked business schools in Canada, Rotman offers a variety of formats, including full-time, part-time or executive or Global Executive MBA programs.

Mission

Mission of the University of Toronto is an internationally significant research university, with undergraduate, graduate and professional programs of excellent quality.

As an integral element of the broader University of Toronto system, the University of Toronto Mississauga will be a transformative agent, championing the teaching, creation and implementation of knowledge in service of the local community in the City of Mississauga, in the Region of Peel and to the benefit of people in Ontario, Canada and, ultimately, the world.

Vision

The University of Toronto Mississauga aspires to be a premier academic institution with exceptional educational opportunities that conducts research of international distinction and provides leadership as an essential partner in the success of our community.

The principles that underlie our vision include:

1. Well-educated students, with depth and breadth of knowledge, are critical to all aspects of Canadian society.

UTM will strive towards an outstanding educational environment for our students, to facilitate learning and accomplishment, both in the classroom and in the broader community.

2. Bringing together the best scholars from around the world to address problems of global significance is essential to an internationally acclaimed research institution.

UTM is committed to diversity in scholarship and supporting its faculty to engage in world-class research that bridges disciplines allowing national and international partnerships to flourish.

3. Knowledge and education are powerful forces that can be utilized to improve the well-being of communities.

UTM will increase and strengthen its outreach and partnerships with local, municipal, regional, provincial, government and non-governmental organizations and agencies to the betterment of knowledge in service of the community.

Purpose of the University

The University of Toronto is dedicated to fostering an academic community in which the learning and scholarship of every member may flourish, with vigilant protection for individual human rights, and a resolute commitment to the principles of equal opportunity, equity and justice.

Within the unique university context, the most crucial of all human rights are the rights of freedom of speech, academic freedom, and freedom of research.

And we affirm that these rights are meaningless unless they entail the right to raise deeply disturbing questions and provocative challenges to the cherished beliefs of society at large and of the university itself.

It is this human right to radical, critical teaching and research with which the University has a duty above all to be concerned; for there is no one else, no other institution and no other office, in our modern liberal democracy, which is the custodian of this most precious and vulnerable right of the liberated human spirit.

Admissions

Applicants to the MBA programs must have completed a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent for admission. The application fee is $175, and required are one written essay and one reflection question, one video interview with a timed written response, two reference forms and a current résumé.

Note: On average, applicants have four years of work experience, but only two are recommended, and there is no requirement.

Applicants should have a minimum 3.0 GPA with official transcript sent directly from each institution where they earned a degree, as well as a GMAT or GRE score. The GMAT range for the 2019 class was 560-740 and the average score was 665 (GMAT requirements waived for applicants who have completed CFA III).

An English-proficiency score is required from all applicants who have degrees from institutions in which English is not the language of instruction or examination.

After the submission of their application, applicants will be contacted to complete an interview. Due to the competitive nature of admissions to the program, successful candidates tend to exceed the minimum requirements.

Application Process

We offer acceptance to the Rotman Full-Time MBA program through several admissions rounds. Admissions decisions are made by the decision date published for the round during which you submit your application. Apply as early as possible to ensure your best chance for acceptance and scholarships awards.

Please be aware that admission to Rotman is competitive, and the class may fill before the final application deadline date. Therefore, while the final deadline date in the annual application cycle is April 29, it is highly recommended that applicants submit their completed applications as early as possible within the application cycle for the best chance of being admitted.

Applications will not be considered complete until all required elements are received. The Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) or Graduate Record Examination (GRE) should be written prior to the application deadline.

Note: You do not need to wait until an application deadline to submit your application! We process applications as soon as they are received. The benefit of submitting by a deadline is the corresponding guaranteed decision date. You will receive one of three initial notifications: invitation to interview, waitlist offer or denial of admission.

However, when an application arrives between deadlines we begin assessing it within days, and a decision is typically reached in 8 weeks or less.

There is no downside to submitting your application between deadlines. This can be a nice option for candidates who have had an unexpected delay impact their ability to exactly meet a deadline. We encourage you to submit as soon as your application is ready.
