Rank Structure for Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps
Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC is a para-military agency of the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria that is commissioned to provide measures against threats and any form of attack or disaster against the nation and its citizenry.
In 1984, the Corps was transformed into a National security outfit, and in 1988, there was a major restructuring of the Corps that led to the establishment of Commands throughout the Federation, including Abuja, and the addition of special functions by the Federal Government.
On 28th June 2003, an Act to give statutory backing to the NSCDC passed by the National Assembly was signed into law by Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, GCFR, the former president and Commander in chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Civil Defence Rank Structure in Nigeria
The Nigerian Civil Defence rank structure is measured or accessed by various factors and you need to be aware of those factors before thinking of being promoted to the next rank.
The most important ones are the years of one’s services, the qualification of the officer (this includes the number of courses an individual has attained while in service and finally one’s achievements as a corps.

Types of Officers in the Civil Defence Rank Structure
There are two types of officers recognized by the Nigerian Civil Defence rank structure. These are the commissioned officers and the non-commissioned officers.
Below are what they stand for:
1. Commissioned Officers
Commissioned officers are uniform personnels that are recruited with a university degree and are presidentially commissioned when they are passing out of their training academy.
These set of officers are often the ones with high ranks immediately after their recruitments.
2. Non-Commissioned Officers
Non commissioned officers are recruited with certificates lower than a degree and are not presidentially commissioned when they are passing out.
The non-commissioned officers hardly gets the top ranks in the corps, except on rare cases of extraordinary achievements.
The Nigeria Civil Defence is one of the country’s important security bodies. The body has a wide-reaching duty related to the protection and safety of the civil populace.
