1. API’s 3 Cities Program in Florence/Venice, Tuscania, and Rome, Italy

Program Description

Students in the API 3 Cities Program spend one month each in three of Lorenzo de’ Medici, The Italian International Institute’s (LdM) four locations, and follow a structured program of five 3-credit courses, which together comprise a unique investigation into the roots of Western civilization.

In the spring, the program finishes in Venice and the fall, it finishes in Florence. Classes meet every day Monday through Thursday for two and a half hours each, providing a total of 45 contact hours per course.

FN Summer in Europe is a multi-country summer program that takes you to some of the most interesting cities in Europe for an immersive study abroad experience.

Learn about the history of the European Union while taking in the sights, sounds, language, culture, and environments first-hand.

3. Lexia Study Abroad: Venice – Area Studies, Culture, and the Environment

Program Description

This program integrates students into local culture & community via language, history, and politics.

Instruction is in English and Italian. Through the Istituto Venezia’s affiliation with the Universita Degli Studi di Venezia, Lexia participants receive access to libraries, facilities, inexpensive student cafeterias, transportation passes and cultural resources throughout the city.

The Venice program supports interaction and dialogue between Lexia participants and Italian faculty and students whenever possible.

It also encourages participation in Italian community events, institutions, and family life. No prior knowledge of Italian is required, as most coursework is in English.

Language instruction during the first month of the program is taught intensively to help students develop the language skills and confidence to live and study in, and integrate themselves into, the Italian community.

4. Three Cities Program: Tuscania, Rome, Florence/Venice

Program Description

The Three Cities Program exposes students to the special characteristics of three different Italian cities during a single semester: Tuscania, Rome and Venice during the spring semester, and Tuscania, Rome and Florence during the fall semester.

Each city has a distinctive character, historical and artistic heritage, and role in today’s Italy. After living and studying in this changing landscape, Three Cities’ students come away with unique insights into the diversity and complexity of another culture.

Students will explore the beauty of the Italian language, the relationship between cultures, the ancient roots of Italy and Rome, Italian gastronomic geography, and the ways writing can create engagement with new places.

Students spend a month at each location and follow a structured program of five 3-credit courses: two courses at the first two sites and one at the last site.

Student life and learning at each of the three locations is closely supported by LdM’s advisors, support staff and faculty. The program is open to all students and has no special prerequisites.

5. Summer School of Fine Arts and Media in Venice

Program Description

The International Summer Academy for Fine Arts and Media in Venice is a combination of academic studies and an open academy.

The courses are offered for students of universities as well as for applicants without training in art.

In this way, it combines advanced level with open accessibility. Courses take place parallel to the Venice Biennales, which also influence the program.

All courses include a training module for beginners providing techniques and skills with most recent didactic methods.

The fact that the art studios, the accommodation, and the meals are all located in the same building or nearby, contributes to a unique working environment at the Summer Academy. Most courses are offered in English and German language.

6. GSU – Current Topics in Environmental Health and Diseases in Italy

Program Description

Georgia State offers many summers and maymester programs led and taught by Georgia State professors.

These programs tend to be focused on a particular topic or theme and range from 10 to 20 participants, though some are larger.

Students participate in lectures, site visits, excursions, and tours as part of the program. These programs usually last between two and six weeks.

Students find these programs a great way to get to know their professors and other GSU students while earning GSU credits and grades.

7. CISabroad A Taste of Italy: Milan, Venice, Pompeii, Capri

Program Description

In this program, you’ll learn about Italian culture, history, and modern life in English as you experience first-hand the sites that have shaped your studies in this course.

Location-based – Known for its delicious cuisine, vibrant culture, and rich history, Italy will provide a vibrant backdrop to the Taste of Italy program.

8. Venice Studio Arts Program

Program Description

The program gives art students a “first residency” in a challenging and professional environment.

Based at the Scuola Internazionale di Grafica, the program offers coursework in graphic design or painting in a city whose museums, walkways, and canals form a truly unique classroom.

Unlike other art programs in Italy, in which American students only work and study with other Americans, BU in Venice is based on interaction with the Italian community of students, teachers, and artists as well as working with Boston University professors.

9. Communicate, Negotiate, Mediate

Program Description

The goal of this 45-hour mediation course is to provide students with an understanding of mediation theory and conflict management skills.

The objective of the course is to aid students to incorporate specific skills into their current career paths.

It is experiential learning, interactive course which will help the diverse group of students integrate the skills into their prospective professions in a pragmatic fashion.

Skills in mediation and conflict resolution have proven to enhance an individual’s personal and professional life. Students will also earn 3-units of academic credit.

10. Marist College-LdM Venice Biennale: Art History and Studio Art Program

Program Description

The Biennale is the world’s oldest and most prestigious art exposition. This program allows students to explore the work of global contemporary artists featured at the Biennale sites and museums.

Students will be immersed in the unique culture of Venice, Italy, where they are surrounded by the works of artists of both the past and present.

The works explored and discussed will help students draw their inspirations for their final project.

11. NYU Summer Study Abroad in Italy

Program Description

Each program offers a unique opportunity to experience Italy, its piazzas, palaces, churches, and museums while gaining valuable educational knowledge.

NYU offers a variety of programs throughout Italy focusing on Italian language studies, cinema, literature, history, culture, nutrition, and studio arts.

12. CCIS: Lorenzo de’ Medici Three Cities, Italy

Program Description

This semester-long study abroad experience connects students to three diverse Italian cities, each with a distinct identity and culture.
