Aspen Foundation Indigenous Health Scholarship

The University of Newcastle is offering the Aspen Foundation Indigenous Health Scholarship to support Indigenous students in completing a degree in Nursing or Social Work.

The Aspen Foundation is committed to supporting the undertaking of life-changing healthcare through significantly reducing or eradicating key illnesses and diseases in remote Australian communities and to providing education for the sustainability of improved health practices.

The University of Newcastle stands as a global leader distinguished by a commitment to equity and excellence and to creating a better future for its regions through a focus on innovation and impact.

The scholarship provides a benefit of $5,000 each year for up to 3 years of study in your program, with a total value of $15,000.

This will be paid to be paid as two lump sums of $2,500 after semester one and semester two census dates each year.

Scholarship Eligibility

The scholarship is open to Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students.

To qualify for this scholarship, you must meet the following criteria:

1. Be enrolled in the first or second year of a Bachelor of Nursing or Bachelor of Social Work undergraduate program at the University of Newcastle.

2. Maintain full-time enrollment.

3. Demonstrate academic progress either through the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) or equivalent required for entry for new students, or a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 4.0 for continuing students.

4. Identify as Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and be recognized as such by your community.

5. Not concurrently hold another scholarship funded or sponsored by UON Donor.

How to Apply

1. Failure to provide documentation with your application will result in non-processing.

2. Ensure all necessary documents are ready for upload in PDF, DOC, DOCX, JPEG, or JPG format before completing the online application. Required documents include:

3. A written statement (maximum 2 A4 pages) detailing your academic accomplishments thus far, your career goals in the relevant field of study/research, and how this scholarship would benefit you.

4. A written reference from a member of the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community.

5. Documents verifying your Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander status with UON.

Application Deadline
