How to Become a Good Politician in Nigeria 2020 See Latest Update.

Become a Good Politician in Nigeria: To become a good convincing politician in Nigeria, you have to prepare and implement strategies to achieve certain goals and also having a good campaign plan is a key to a successful campaign

How to Start a Political Campaign

Nigeria Political System

Nigeria is a federation with three tiers of government: federal, 36 state governments and 774 local government areas. Each tier has three arms of government: the executive, parliament and the judiciary.

At the federal level, a democratically elected president forms a cabinet to administer the country. The federal parliament is made up of the Senate, which is the upper house, and the House of Representatives, the lower house.

The Senate, headed by the Senate President, is composed of 109 senators; based on equal representation of three senators from each of the 36 states and one representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The lower house is made up of 360 elected members from the 360 constituencies into which the country is divided. The numbers of representatives per state are based on proportional representation of the population of each of the 36 states, including the FCT. Though a federation, Nigeria practices administrative federalism and not fiscal federalism.

The federal government largely controls the resources of the country and therefore Wields huge political influence. The 36 states depend on monthly budgetary.

Allocations from the federal government. Politics at the center is more lucrative and very competitive due to the concentration of and access to resources.

Becoming A Good Politician in Nigeria

The politician’s trade is something best learned in practice: that is the prevailing consensus in many political parties. Of course, it is true that there is no school like the school of hard knocks, but that is no reason to throw aspiring politicians to the wolves without any preparation whatsoever.

Political skills can definitely be learned. The extent to which political parties invest in this, however, varies greatly. In my opinion, a party’s professionalism is directly related to the amount of attention devoted to training these skills. There is no excuse for poor preparation.

Tips to Become a Good Politician in Nigeria

Politics is all about preparing and implementing strategies to achieve certain goals. What is the strategy? Politics is a way of achieving a given goal, and the political debate focuses on the latter: a great deal of time is spent deciding which goals to strive for.

A strategy is a way you try to achieve a given goal. In the end, voters will judge parties and politicians by the concrete results they have achieved, not by the promises they made.

Debating and thinking about ways to achieve the goals is at least as important as the nature of the goals themselves. So when you want to develop a good strategy, you first have to determine the goal. Your goal should meet these four criteria:

  • Concreteness.
  • Measurability
  • Feasibility
  • Inspirational value:

The personality of the leader is hugely important in a campaign. The campaign goal, the strategy, the message, the style of your campaign, the media you target, the image you project, and the voters you try to address:

everything has to dovetail with the leader’s personality, and vice versa. In addition to this, every leader has to display qualities like decisiveness, reliability, and consistency.

Leaders have to be prepared to go to extremes to achieve their goals – without, however, compromising their personal views or integrity. Their strengths should be exploited, their weak points acknowledged and, if possible, turned into something positive

This is all about setting a goal and drawing up a plan to achieve that goal. We pay a lot of attention to the message and the key issues. These are key factors of communication. If you do not have a rock-solid program, you can communicate all you want without ever making an impact.

As soon as the party has determined its message and key issues, you can start developing a communication strategy. There is one dangerous pitfall you should try to avoid.

Try not to communicate about the strategy and strategic considerations; the strategy has to be incorporated in the communication, not be a subject of communication.

Timing is crucial in communication. It is a good idea therefore to plan your communications in advance and develop a media strategy. This should revolve around the following questions:

  • When do you want to get your message across?
  • Where do you want to get your message across?
  • Whom do you want to get your message across to?

Every communication strategy revolves around the central message. This message is crucial because it is something you can always return to throughout the campaign.

It is the fixed point you can refer to in all the various communication channels: interviews, speeches, debates, information booklets, etc. As stated before, the message contains the very essence of what you want to convey to the voter

Politics is all about getting your message across. A good speech is one of the best ways to do this. There are other ways, of course, like giving a press conference, sending out a press release, giving an interview or paying a visit to a company or organization.

All of these methods, however, give you less control over what will make the news.

To become a successful politician in Nigeria you must belong to one of the Political parties in Nigeria

A good campaign plan is key to a successful campaign. Without a campaign plan, you stumble from one incident to the next without being able to implement an overarching campaign strategy or to take the initiative.

Also, the lack of a general guideline increases the chance of internal conflict, which is the last thing you need during a campaign.

Canvassing in electorally important neighborhoods is an excellent way of finding out where your voters live and getting into direct contact with them.

Although we attempt to give as full a treatment as possible of the skills every politician should have. Unfortunately, it is impossible to be complete.

In addition to which, exactly which of the skills mentioned are required depends largely on the (political) context and traditions in different states in Nigeria.
