At Sarah Lawrence College you are considered a first-year applicant if:

  • One completes less than one year of full-time study (approximately 30 credits) at the college level.

2. Transfer Applicants

The College welcomes transfer applications from students who will have successfully completed at least one full year of college (about 30 credits), and expect to spend at least two consecutive years at Sarah Lawrence College.

All transfer applicants must submit the following required materials to complete their application;

  • Teacher/Faculty Evaluations
  • Transcripts
  • English Proficiency Testing Exams (for international applicants)

3. International Students

The Sarah Lawrence acceptance rate is favorable, as such International applicants should complete the Common Application. All application essays and recommendations must be written in English.

Transcripts must be translated to English, and the original language document must also be provided.

As with all applicants, the College will always ask for two letters of recommendation from academic teachers. Standardized tests (such as the ACT and SAT), interviews, and artistic supplements are optional.

Applicants for whom English is not the native language should take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). The College also accepts the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) and Duolingo English Test.

To be a Successful applicant strive to have TOEFL scores of 600 (paper), 250 (computer), or 100 (internet) or higher and IELTS scores of 7.0 or higher.

Students for whom time or distance creates a hardship in supplying these results may request an extension.
